SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
6 WHEREAS, U.S. Army Specialist 4 Norman Eugene Treest was
7born in Aurora in 1947 and graduated from Ottawa High School in
81965; he enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 18, 1966; and
9 WHEREAS, SPEC Treest was wounded on December 18, 1966 and
10returned to Vietnam on April 20, 1967; and
11 WHEREAS, While on patrol on July 1, 1967, SPEC Treest was
12wounded a second time and succumbed to his injuries on July 5;
13and
14 WHEREAS, SPEC Treest was awarded the Purple Heart for
15wounds received in action; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
18REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the
19section of Route 6 in the City of Marseilles that runs from the
20intersections of Route 6 and Oakdale Street to Route 6 and Main

1Street as the "SPEC Norman Treest Memorial Highway"; and be it
2further
3 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
4is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
5State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
6giving notice of the name "SPEC Norman Treest Memorial
7Highway"; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9presented to the family of SPEC Treest, the Mayor of
10Marseilles, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
11Transportation.
