SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Illinois is the 4th largest pork producing state
3in the United States, contributing an estimated $13.8 billion
4to the State's economy and supporting over 57,000 jobs; and
5 WHEREAS, Pork is the most widely eaten protein in the
6world, and consumers have a variety of delicious cuts as
7choices, including bacon; Illinois pig farmers produce over
8six billion slices of bacon per year, and the average American
9eats 17.9 lbs. of bacon of per year; and
10 WHEREAS, The hardworking pig farmers who raise this
11high-quality product deserve our support; whether its plain or
12apple-wood smoked, whether store-bought or artisan-made, bacon
13is a meat for any meal; and
14 WHEREAS, The phrase "Bacon Never Broke My Heart" goes
15without saying; and
16 WHEREAS, National Bacon Day is celebrated in December, but
17Illinois needs its own day to pay tribute to this decadent,
18rich, and indulgent meat; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF

1REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare May 3, 2023
2as "Illinois Bacon Day" and invite all Illinoisans to thank a
3pig farmer by enjoying some delicious slices of bacon; and be

5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the Illinois Pork Producers Association as a
7symbol of our respect and esteem.
