SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Battle of Midway is widely considered one of
the most significant naval battles in the Pacific Theater of
World War II, taking place from June 4, 1942 to June 7, 1942,
only six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor; Midway
Island is located in the Pacific Ocean almost directly between
the United States and Japan, making it a key target in the war;
and
WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy's victory in the battle, and
subsequent defense of the major base on Midway Island,
effectively turned the tides of World War II in the Pacific; as
a result of the U.S. victory, Japan abandoned its plan to
expand its reach in the Pacific and remained on the defensive
for the remainder of World War II; and
WHEREAS, In 1949, the Chicago Municipal Airport was
renamed Midway in honor of the hard fought Battle of Midway;
and
WHEREAS, June 2025 marks the 83rd anniversary of the
Battle of Midway; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare June 7, 2025
