2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Edward R. "Ed" Elliott of Rock Island, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on January 2, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ed Elliott was born in Allens Grove Township, | ||||||
6 | Iowa to Nellie and William Elliott on May 22, 1924; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Rock Island Senior High School and served in | ||||||
8 | the U.S. Army during World War II; he achieved the rank of | ||||||
9 | sergeant and took part in the Battle of the Bulge; he received | ||||||
10 | three Overseas Service Bars, the American Campaign Medal, the | ||||||
11 | European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four | ||||||
12 | Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished | ||||||
13 | Unit Badge, and a World War II Victory Medal; he also received | ||||||
14 | a letter of thanks from President Harry S. Truman; he married | ||||||
15 | Eileen Wagner on October 2, 1948; and

16 | WHEREAS, Ed Elliott was a mail carrier in Rock Island for | ||||||
17 | many years; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Ed Elliott was a member of the Fifteenth Avenue | ||||||
19 | Christian Church in Rock Island and an avid fan of the Chicago | ||||||
20 | Cubs; he enjoyed listening to baseball and football games and | ||||||
21 | audio books; he and his wife enjoyed their weekends together | ||||||
22 | at their cottage on the Mississippi River and spent their |

1 | winters in Florida; and

2 | WHEREAS, Ed Elliott was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
3 | Eileen; his parents; his sister, Ellen Hockett; and his | ||||||
4 | brother, James Elliott; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ed Elliott is survived by his sister, Dorothy | ||||||
6 | Coulson, and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
9 | Edward R. "Ed" Elliott and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
10 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
11 | further

12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the family of Ed Elliott as an expression of our | ||||||
14 | deepest sympathy.
