SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Pastor Emeritus Warren C. Dorris, Sr. of
Joliet, who passed away on December 27, 2010; and
WHEREAS, He was born on March 21, 1925 to Reggie and Ivory
Dorris in Winona, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, He was educated in the Winona Public School System
and was a decorated World War II Veteran, earning a Purple
Heart after being wounded in Belgium; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Dorris was employed by Caterpillar, Inc.
for over 32 years; he was also one of the founding members of
Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ; Pastor Dorris worked
faithfully as a deacon, trustee, assistant pastor, and other
positions for over 60 years; he loved his family and cherished
family time and holidays; and
WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Reggie
and Ivory Dorris; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Samuel
and Martha Rimpson; his brothers, Joe Flint Dorris, L.C.
Dorris, Sr., Willie D. Dorris, and Robert L. Dorris, Sr.; his
sisters, Ellen Waldington and Ella Mae Waldington; his
grandchildren, Michelle Alexander Garner, Montique Mays, and

Satoria Spiva; his sons-in-law, Eddie Westmoreland and Charles
Williams; his sisters-in law, Catherine Hobbs Dorris, Maudie
McKenzie Dorris, Annie Rimpson Harrison, Lucille Rimpson
Moore, Dora Meyers Rimpson, and Mattie Townsend Dorris; his
brothers-in-law, Sammie Rimpson, Kale Rimpson, Lenard Rimpson,
Nathan Rimpson, Eddie Luther Rimpson, Ulysses Moore, and Alfred
Harrison; and his god-daughter, Kimberly Edmon; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Emeritus Warren C. Dorris, Sr. leaves to
cherish his memory his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret; his
daughters, Marie Dorris, Freida Kimble, Ruby Williams,
Dolorita Mackins (Cecil), Ivory Crosby (Terry), and Sherry
Westmoreland; his son, Pastor/Councilman Warren C. Dorris, Jr.
(Rita); his grandchildren, Walter (Paula) Kimble, Samuel Mays,
Yolanda Alexander, Tawana (Jerry) McCullum, Garland Mays,
Nicole Kimble, Demmond (Tequilla) Dorris, LaCresha Alexander,
Monica Wright, Andre Dorris, Shavahn (Alvin) Jefferson,
Christopher Wright, Curtis Anthony Rodgers, Camille Wright,
Erick Dorris, Justin (Natalie) Rodgers, Jennifer Spiva, Erica
Tyus, and Brandon Mackins; his 38 great-grandchildren; his one
great-great-grandson; his special nieces, Lucille Kyles and
Mae Ruth Carr; his sisters-in law, Mattie Dorris, Jeffie
Dorris, Virginia Hughes, Daisy Rimpson, and Debra Rimpson; his
god-children, Jazerle Amos, Garrett and Gary Beene, Mera
Warren-Gall, Joshua Edmon, and Andre Holder; his spiritual
daughters, Meredith Beene, Elaine Conley, and Geneva Allen; his

special friend, Billy Hamilton, Sr.; the entire Prayer Tower
Church family; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and
friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
his family, friends, and congregation, the passing of Pastor
Emeritus Warren C. Dorris, Sr.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Pastor Emeritus Warren C. Dorris,
Sr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
