| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of former Hillsboro Mayor Harold DeWitt | ||||||
4 | Whitten, who passed away on March 5, 2009; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Whitten was a 1942 graduate of Coffeen High | ||||||
6 | School; he was born July 1, 1923, in Coffeen, son of the late | ||||||
7 | Jesse and Alta (Elam) Whitten; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army in Europe | ||||||
9 | during World War II; he had a long career in the Hillsboro | ||||||
10 | community, including serving as Supervisor of Assessments at | ||||||
11 | Coffeen, Montgomery County Sheriff from 1958 to 1962, and | ||||||
12 | Montgomery County Treasurer from 1962 to 1964; he served as CEO | ||||||
13 | of the Montgomery County National Bank, now National Bank, for | ||||||
14 | 20 years and had been employed with Production Credit | ||||||
15 | Association; and

16 | WHEREAS, He was employed at the Department of Commerce and | ||||||
17 | Community Affairs for eight years in Springfield; he was | ||||||
18 | elected Mayor of Hillsboro in 1995 and served for eight years;
| ||||||
19 | Mr. Whitten held memberships in the Calvary Baptist Church in | ||||||
20 | Hillsboro, the Kiwanis Club, the Sheriff's Association, and the | ||||||
21 | American Banker's Association; he was a lifelong member of | ||||||
22 | Hillsboro Moose Lodge #1377 and a 50-year member of Mt. Moriah |

1 | Masonic Lodge 51 AF & AM; and

2 | WHEREAS, He married Mary Evelyn Satterlee on July 19, 1947, | ||||||
3 | in Bond County, and she passed away on December 31, 1982; he | ||||||
4 | married Mary Lee Reeves on February 15, 1997, at Calvary | ||||||
5 | Baptist Church, Hillsboro; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Harold Whitten was preceded in death by his | ||||||
7 | stepdaughter, Cheri Yaeger; his grandchildren, Neil Pachesa | ||||||
8 | and Jessica Whitten; and his brother, Dwight Whitten; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Harold Whitten is survived by his wife, Mary Lee; | ||||||
10 | his children, Harold Dean (wife Linda) Whitten, Mike (wife | ||||||
11 | Cheryl) Whitten, Doris M. (husband Dr. Roger) McFarlin, Mary | ||||||
12 | Lou Whitten, Gayle A. (husband Roy) Harrell, Paula Luebbert, | ||||||
13 | and Jim (wife Pat) White; his stepson, Dale (wife Janet) | ||||||
14 | Reeves; his grandchildren, Jason and Jeremy Whitten, Matt | ||||||
15 | Pachesa, Amy Maedge, Mary Whitten, Nicole and Marissa Harrell, | ||||||
16 | and Jarod and Nick Luebbert; his stepgrandchildren, Tara | ||||||
17 | Reeves, Jason Yaeger and Stacy Kalmbacher; his five | ||||||
18 | great-grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy Lentz; and his | ||||||
19 | sisters-in-law, Clara Mae Whitten and Lavonne Satterlee; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |

1 | his family and friends, the passing of Harold Whitten; and be | ||||||
2 | it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Harold Whitten as a symbol of our | ||||||
