SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Mother Elizabeth McDaniel of
4Springfield, who passed away on April 3, 2023 at the age of
5102; and
6 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was born in Harvey to Charles and
7Nancy Wheeler on October 20, 1920; she graduated from high
8school and earned a certification in nursing from Lincoln Land
9Community College; and
10 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel spent most of her career as a
11licensed practical nurse, home nurse, social worker, and
12foster parent; and
13 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel strongly believed in her family,
14her career, her faith, and her community and was passionately
15active in each of them; some of her accomplishments and awards
16include two NAACP Awards and official proclamations from State
17Rep. Sue Scherer for her outstanding work and dedication to
18the children of the community; she also received an official
19proclamation and dedication by Mayor Langfelder naming,
20Sunday, October 18, 2020 "Mother Elizabeth McDaniel Day"; she
21was recently inducted into the 2023 Legacy Circle of the
22International Department Of The Church Of God In Christ; and

1 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel enjoyed knitting, watching golf,
2following the Chicago Bulls, and taking care of children; she
3had a green thumb for gardening; she loved her family and
4friends and instilled good values in her children and
5grandchildren that have served them well, but most of all, her
6greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and
7having an active role in their lives; she was a caring woman
8who spent most of her life thinking about others; she was an
9active foster grandparent, served the youth of the community,
10volunteered with the Red Cross and the disaster relief
11program, and was active in numerous bowling leagues; she
12always surrounded herself with her friends and family, which
13is where she felt most comfortable and loved; everyone who
14knew her experienced her big heart and giving nature; and
15 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was member of Greater All Nation
16Tabernacle and was a member of the Super Senior Dance Team; and
17 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel was preceded in death by her
18parents; her husband, Leroy McDaniel; and her siblings,
19Howard, Richard, Rena, Dorothy, Mabel, June, Ada, Elene,
20William, Harry, John, and Charles Wheeler Jr.; and
21 WHEREAS, Mother McDaniel is survived by her children,
22Charles Howard Caesar Sr. and Jeremiah Shaeffer; her

1Goddaughter, Sheila Wills; her grandchildren, Charles H.
2Caesar Jr., Dewayne Caesar, and Dohnell Caesar; her
3granddaughter, Chaquita (Deandrea) Wiley and Charles Caesar
4III; her great-great-grandchildren, Christcheon Taylor Jr. and
5Ava Joy E. Wiley; her nieces and nephews, Sheryl Wheeler, Tina
6Lathan, Barbara and Donna Jackson, Ronny Curry, Clifford
7Gatewood, and Richard Wheeler Jr., and numerous other family
8and friends; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Mother Elizabeth McDaniel and extend our sincere condolences
12to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
13it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Mother McDaniel as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
