| 2 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois joins Nicasa Behavioral | ||||||
| 3 | Health Services, the National Council on Problem Gambling, and | ||||||
| 4 | the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling in promoting March | ||||||
| 5 | 2019 as National Problem Gambling Awareness Month; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Promoting National Problem Gambling Awareness | ||||||
| 7 | Month provides an opportunity to educate the public and | ||||||
| 8 | policymakers about the social and financial effectiveness of | ||||||
| 9 | services available for problem gambling; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Problem gambling is a public health issue | ||||||
| 11 | affecting millions of Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic | ||||||
| 12 | backgrounds in all communities and has a significant societal | ||||||
| 13 | and economic cost; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Problem gambling is treatable, and treatment is | ||||||
| 15 | effective in minimizing harm to both individuals and society as | ||||||
| 16 | a whole; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Residents of Illinois can call the 24-hour hotline | ||||||
| 18 | at 1-800-426-2537; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March 2019 | ||||||

| 1 | as Problem Gambling Awareness Month in the State of Illinois; | ||||||

| 3 | RESOLVED, That we encourage all residents to have a | ||||||
| 4 | dialogue about problem gambling and advocate for responsible | ||||||
| 5 | policy making, research, prevention, and treatment.
