| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Bertha "Boots" Harrison of Alton, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on April 27, 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, She was born December 24, 1935, to the union of | ||||||
6 | Milton and Dorothy (Hawkins) Stewart in Jersey County; Boots, | ||||||
7 | as she was affectionately called, attended and graduated from | ||||||
8 | the Jerseyville public schools; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, In July 1955, the former Ms. Stewart married | ||||||
10 | Walter "Bubble" Harrison Sr.; Mrs. Harrison was employed for | ||||||
11 | John Olin as a day worker, the Madison County Court House as an | ||||||
12 | elevator operator, and the Madison County Juvenile Detention | ||||||
13 | Center, retiring in 1993; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Sister Bertha received Christ at an early age and | ||||||
15 | was baptized at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the | ||||||
16 | late Pastor William Binford; she was a lifelong member of the | ||||||
17 | church and served as matron, mass choir member, and worked on | ||||||
18 | the kitchen committee; Boots also was faithful member of the | ||||||
19 | Merry Hearts; and

20 | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; | ||||||
21 | her brother, William Stewart; and her granddaughter, Zariah |

2 | WHEREAS, Celebrating the lasting legacy of Mrs. Bertha L. | ||||||
3 | Harrison are her sons, Robert (Suzanne), Steven, Pastor Gregory | ||||||
4 | (Eddie Mae), and Walter "Juney" (Cookie) Jr.; her special | ||||||
5 | daughter-in-law, Theresa Harrison; her 13 grandchildren; her | ||||||
6 | 30 great-grandchildren; her 3 great-great-grandchildren; her | ||||||
7 | sisters, Loretta (Gerald) Hutchinson and Marie (Rick) Stewart; | ||||||
8 | her brother, Kenneth Stewart; her special cousins, James | ||||||
9 | (Claudette) Day, Delores "Faye"(Richard) Hutchinson, and Dave | ||||||
10 | (Vivian) Greer; her good friend, Anna Mae Lewis; and a host of | ||||||
11 | nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
14 | her family and friends, the passing of Bertha "Boots" Harrison; | ||||||
15 | and be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Bertha "Boots" Harrison as a symbol | ||||||
18 | of our sincere sympathy.
