SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Mikel Jay "Mike" Cannon of Oakwood,
4who passed away on May 9, 2021; and
5 WHEREAS, Mike Cannon was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to
6Leland and Dorothy (Seymour) Cannon on February 1, 1943; he
7married Mary Kay Dodson in Danville on September 14, 1963; and
8 WHEREAS, Mike Cannon was a licensed barber and
9cosmetologist for over 62 years; he loved his work and the
10opportunity it gave him to talk to people every day; and
11 WHEREAS, Mike Cannon committed to his faith when he was 18
12years old; he will be remembered for being a wonderful
13husband, an amazing father, and the world's most fun "Poppy"
14to his beloved grandchildren; and
15 WHEREAS, Mike Cannon was preceded in death by his parents
16and his brothers, Larry Cannon and Steve Cannon; and
17 WHEREAS, Mike Cannon is survived by his wife of over 57
18years, Mary Kay Cannon; his daughters, Christine (Dan) Schmidt
19and Cathi (David) Fritz; his grandchildren, Jack Fritz, Lauren
20Schmidt, Annalise Fritz, and Tyler Schmidt; his dog, Tate; and

1several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Mikel Jay "Mike" Cannon and extend our sincere condolences to
5his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Mike Cannon as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
