SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
to learn of the death of Mikel Jay "Mike" Cannon of Oakwood,
who passed away on May 9, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Mike Cannon was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to
Leland and Dorothy (Seymour) Cannon on February 1, 1943; he
married Mary Kay Dodson in Danville on September 14, 1963; and
WHEREAS, Mike Cannon was a licensed barber and
cosmetologist for over 62 years; he loved his work and the
opportunity it gave him to talk to people every day; and
WHEREAS, Mike Cannon committed to his faith when he was 18
years old; he will be remembered for being a wonderful
husband, an amazing father, and the world's most fun "Poppy"
to his beloved grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mike Cannon was preceded in death by his parents
and his brothers, Larry Cannon and Steve Cannon; and
WHEREAS, Mike Cannon is survived by his wife of over 57
years, Mary Kay Cannon; his daughters, Christine (Dan) Schmidt
and Cathi (David) Fritz; his grandchildren, Jack Fritz, Lauren
Schmidt, Annalise Fritz, and Tyler Schmidt; his dog, Tate; and

several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Mikel Jay "Mike" Cannon and extend our sincere condolences to
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Mike Cannon as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
