2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of H. Yvonne McKinney, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | August 22, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Yvonne McKinney was born to Emanuel Hicks Sr. and | ||||||
6 | Addie Lee (Thomas) Hicks in Waukegan on February 11, 1944; she | ||||||
7 | was raised in Waukegan; she attended McAllister Grade School | ||||||
8 | and graduated from Waukegan Township High School; she married | ||||||
9 | Lee Edward Mason Sr. in 1962, and they had two children, Lee E. | ||||||
10 | Mason Jr. and Lisa E. Mason; she later married John McKinney in | ||||||
11 | 1978, and they raised their four children, Lee Jr., Lisa, | ||||||
12 | Vicki, and Venus, together; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Yvonne McKinney started working at Abbott shortly | ||||||
14 | after completing high school and retired after 38 years of | ||||||
15 | service; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Yvonne McKinney was a member of First Corinthian | ||||||
17 | Missionary Baptist Church in North Chicago, where she | ||||||
18 | faithfully volunteered; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Yvonne McKinney was preceded in death by her | ||||||
20 | paternal grandparents, Alford and Mamie Hicks; her maternal | ||||||
21 | grandparents, Robert and Rosie Thomas; her parents; her |

1 | grandson, Shawn Sotomayor; her brothers, Emanuel Hicks Jr. and | ||||||
2 | Tyrone Springs; and her sister, Brenda Mayfield; and

3 | WHEREAS, Yvonne McKinney is survived by her husband, John | ||||||
4 | McKinney; her children, Lee E. Mason Jr., Lisa E. (Dillard) | ||||||
5 | Dabney, Vicki McKinney, and Venus (Carleton Sr.) Childs; her | ||||||
6 | grandchildren, Andre Brewton, Taylore Dabney, Darielle Hay, | ||||||
7 | Carleton Childs Jr., Naomi Childs, and Rebecca Childs; her | ||||||
8 | great-grandsons, Stone Brewton, Isaiah Childs, and Ezra | ||||||
9 | Childs; her siblings, Shirley Robinson, Gloria Jennings, | ||||||
10 | Vanessa (Fred) Washington, Surthal, Gregory, and Darrell | ||||||
11 | Hicks, Carolyn Gilliam, Patricia, Deborah, Phyllis, and Irene | ||||||

13 | Joyce Parker; her dear friend, Jacqueline Wilkins; and a | ||||||
14 | multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, | ||||||

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | H. Yvonne McKinney and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
20 | further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Yvonne McKinney as an expression of | ||||||
