2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Gregory Wayne "Greg" Small Sr. of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on October 31, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Greg Small was born to Shaughneysy Small Jr. and | ||||||
6 | Ruth (Penny) Small in Battle Creek, Michigan on September 20, | ||||||
7 | 1957; he graduated from Springfield Southeast High School; he | ||||||
8 | attended Springfield Junior College and earned a bachelor's | ||||||
9 | degree and his Hazmat certification from the University of | ||||||
10 | Illinois; he married Kenna René Small on January 30, 1988; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Greg Small worked as a long-distance Spanish | ||||||
12 | bilingual operator with Illinois Bell Telephone, a station | ||||||
13 | operator with Commonwealth Edison, an engineering assistant, a | ||||||
14 | managing principal instructor, a control operator with | ||||||
15 | Dominion Energy, Inc., and a control room operator with | ||||||
16 | Dynegy, Inc.; he was the nuclear operations emergency response | ||||||
17 | life safety and rescue principle licensed instructor for High | ||||||
18 | Angle Rescue for Commonwealth Edison at the Kincaid Generation | ||||||
19 | station in Chicago, where he handled 28 nuclear sources from | ||||||
20 | 1980 to 1982; he was also a licensed EMT for 24 years from 1995 | ||||||
21 | to 2019; he was a certified Nuclear Fire Brigade Task Force | ||||||
22 | Team Member and received his OSHA certification and his High | ||||||
23 | Angle Rescue certification;; and

1 | WHEREAS, Greg Small was a member of Cherry Hills Church | ||||||
2 | for 22 years, where he was served in various capacities, | ||||||
3 | including with the adult choir and as a youth pastor; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Greg Small loved golf and was a U.S. Open | ||||||
5 | Qualifier at the Illini Country Club in 1984; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Greg Small was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
7 | and

8 | WHEREAS, Greg Small is survived by his wife; his children, | ||||||
9 | Sunshine Clemons, Lauren (André) Messina, Gregory Wayne Small | ||||||
10 | Jr., Shawnaci (Brady) Schroeder, Kara Small, and Jared Small; | ||||||
11 | his brothers, Jonathon (Darcel) Small, David Small, Benjamin | ||||||
12 | (Laura) Small, Matthew (Jayme) Small, Josiah (Kim) Small, and | ||||||
13 | Shaughneysy Small III; his granddaughters, Aria Bender and | ||||||
14 | Lola Messina; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; | ||||||

17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
