2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Althea Przybylo Kroger, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on August 30, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Althea Kroger was born in Chicago; her parents | ||||||
6 | were Ted and Alice Przybylo; she attended St. Helen's Polish | ||||||
7 | Catholic Grade School and Mt. St Mary High School; while at Mt. | ||||||
8 | St. Mary, she played the piano and violin and performed in | ||||||
9 | numerous orchestra concerts; she was also captain of the | ||||||
10 | varsity basketball and volleyball teams and served as class | ||||||
11 | officer and president of the Girls Athletic Association; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, After high school, Althea Kroger attended St. | ||||||
13 | Louis University, where she met the man of her dreams, Joe | ||||||
14 | Kroger; after marrying in 1969, Joe and Althea moved to | ||||||
15 | Toronto, where Althea became a mother to their loving son, | ||||||
16 | Andrew; she subsequently earned her master's degree in | ||||||
17 | political science from the University of Vermont, her law | ||||||
18 | degree from Vermont Law School, and her Master of Public | ||||||
19 | Administration Degree from the John F. Kennedy School of | ||||||
20 | Government at Harvard University; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Althea Kroger was committed to social justice and | ||||||
22 | was an activist in women's rights; despite strong opposition, |

1 | she was elected and served in the Vermont House of | ||||||
2 | Representatives for 4 terms; she subsequently served 2 terms in | ||||||
3 | the Vermont Senate before becoming a family court judge; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, After a year of rest following her colon cancer | ||||||
5 | diagnosis in 1996, Althea Kroger traveled to Poland and fell in | ||||||
6 | love with the country and its people; after studying for a year | ||||||
7 | in Krakow, she received her certification to teach English as a | ||||||
8 | second language; she then purchased and renovated a large | ||||||
9 | building and opened the Althea Institute in Debica, which was | ||||||
10 | founded to teach English and leadership skills to business | ||||||
11 | managers and civic leaders; for the next 10 years, she worked | ||||||
12 | relentlessly to better the lives of many people in Poland and | ||||||
13 | the world at large; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Althea Kroger is survived by her husband, Joseph; | ||||||
15 | her son, Andrew (Carolina); her granddaughters, Gabrielle and | ||||||
16 | Rachel; and her siblings, Vivian (Paul) Kolpak and her | ||||||
17 | children, Todd Alexis, and Vanessa; Andrew (Amy) Przybylo and | ||||||
18 | his children, Adam and Kiki; Alice (Tony) Pawlicki and her | ||||||
19 | children, Allison, Angie, and Stacie; Vicki (Bill) Pindras and | ||||||
20 | her children, Andrea, David, Laura, Eric, and Emilie; and Ted | ||||||
21 | (Alicja) and his children, Michelle, Alex, and Jack; she also | ||||||
22 | had 14 first cousins; therefore, be it

23 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
2 | her family and friends, the passing of Althea Przybylo Kroger; | ||||||
3 | and be it further
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Althea Kroger as an expression of | ||||||
6 | our sympathy.
