SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Donald Engel of Hampshire, who passed
away on October 9, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Donald Engel was born on the family farm in Genoa
Township to Herman and Anna (Herrmann) Engel on April 1, 1923;
he was the last surviving member of the Hampshire High School
Class of 1941; he married Lucille M. Yurs at the St. Charles
Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire on August 21, 1946; and
WHEREAS, Donald Engel was a lifelong farmer in Hampshire
and a longtime 4-H leader and farm bureau member; he served as
a Kane County Fair Board member and as superintendent of the
swine department for the fair for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Donald Engel was a member of the St. Charles
Borromeo Catholic Church, where he served as a past board
member and usher; he was also a member of the Catholic Order of
Foresters for over 80 years; he enjoyed traveling, playing
cards, games, and bingo; he was was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan;
he loved celebrating life and family; his pride and joy was his
family and he was always supportive of his families'
activities; and

WHEREAS, Donald Engel was preceded in death by his parents;
his stepfather, Frank; his wife, Lucille; his brothers, Harold,
Ronald, and Robert; his granddaughter, Nicole Stading; his
great-grandson, Edward Engel; and his great-granddaughter,
Alexandra Mathey; and
WHEREAS, Donald Engel is survived by his children, Richard
(Bonnie), Diane (Richard) Stading, Sharon Danos (Ken Orr), Dave
(Deb), Mary (Paul) Zuzga, and Margie (Larry) Gendron; his
loving companion, Carroll VonBergen; 12 grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (Vernon) Drendel; and
his brother, Frank (Carol); therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Donald Engel, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Donald Engel as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
