SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
to learn of the death of Richard K. Hakanson of Silvis, who
passed away on April 2, 2022; and
WHEREAS, Richard Hakanson was born to Elmer and Juanita
(Rees) Hakanson in Crawfordsville, Iowa on September 21, 1934;
he served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1959; he married
Phyllis Cox on February 27, 1960, and she preceded him in death
in 1997; he later married Barbara (Brand) Bennett in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Richard Hakanson was employed at John Deere; he
retired in 1994; and
WHEREAS, Richard Hakanson was a self-taught, talented
woodworker and handyman; he loved American history and hot
rods; he adored all animals, and he was known for helping and
bringing home stray cats and dogs; and
WHEREAS, Richard Hakanson was funny, long-winded,
opinionated, stubborn, tough, and sometimes downright
cantankerous; he was very proud of and adored Connie
(Farrance) Brackney, Louis Andre Delouiser, and Cherie
(Peterson) Husain, his "rug rats"; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hakanson was preceded in death by his
first wife, Phyllis, and his parents; and
WHEREAS, Richard Hakanson is survived by his wife,
Barbara; his daughter, Reesa (Kenneth) Douglas; and his
brother, E. Rees (Kathy) Hakanson; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Richard K. Hakanson and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Richard Hakanson as an expression
of our deepest sympathy.
