2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of John F. Trees of Springfield, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on July 6, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Trees was born to Arthur C. and Frances M. | ||||||
6 | Madigan Trees in Urbana on June 5, 1947; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Feisthans High School in 1965; he attended Lincoln Land | ||||||
8 | Community College; he served in the U.S. Air Force during the | ||||||
9 | Vietnam War, where he developed lifelong friendships and | ||||||
10 | received an honorable discharge; he married Candice D. Senor | ||||||
11 | in Springfield on September 28, 1974; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Trees was a skilled laborer and an | ||||||
13 | accomplished carpenter, and he held several trade | ||||||
14 | certifications; he retired from the Illinois Department of | ||||||
15 | Transportation, after an illustrious career with the State of | ||||||
16 | Illinois; his career included a stint at the Illinois State | ||||||
17 | Fair, where he worked as a carpenter; he additionally served | ||||||
18 | as a journeyman for the Carpenter Apprenticeship School and | ||||||
19 | worked at the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant for a short time; and

20 | WHEREAS, John Trees was a member of American Legion Post | ||||||
21 | 809, Carpenter's Local 16, and Stationary Engineers Local 399; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, John Trees was a voracious reader, and he loved | ||||||
2 | reading the Sunday New York Times; he also loved listening to | ||||||
3 | good music, traveling, eating delicious food, getting a good | ||||||
4 | bargain, going to garage sales, and antiquing; in his younger | ||||||
5 | years, he and his wife annually attended the New Orleans Jazz | ||||||
6 | Fest; he was a devoted Cardinals fan and supported the local | ||||||
7 | high school sports teams, especially the Southeast High School | ||||||
8 | Spartans' girls basketball and track teams; he enjoyed taking | ||||||
9 | hunting trips to Pike County and fishing at Reelfoot Lake in | ||||||
10 | Tennessee with his daughters, brother, and nephews; he also | ||||||
11 | enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Trees was affectionately known as "Papa | ||||||
13 | John"; he was also fondly known as "Tall Trees" by his friends | ||||||
14 | at Spammy's; he was a master carpenter who could fix anything | ||||||
15 | or knew someone who could if he could not; he was always | ||||||
16 | willing to lend a hand to those in need and knew no strangers; | ||||||
17 | he and his wife opened their home to family and friends in | ||||||
18 | their times of need and hosted many fun filled June birthday | ||||||
19 | parties; and

20 | WHEREAS, John Trees is survived by his wife of 47 years, | ||||||
21 | Candice D. Trees; his daughters, Peggi (Marcus) Trees-Gant, | ||||||
22 | Jessi Trees, and Johanna (Dr. Corbet Ellison) Trees, Esq.; his | ||||||
23 | niece, Dr. Alexandra (Sherwin) Lockridge Jr.; his |

1 | grandchildren, Makai, Marisa, Megan, Dariana, and Madigan; his | ||||||
2 | brother, Tom (Norma) Trees; his in-laws, Deborah (David) | ||||||
3 | Burns, Lester Kevin (Linda) Senor, Patricia (Donald) Carter, | ||||||
4 | Herman (Valeria) Senor, and Mark Senor; his nephews, Josh | ||||||
5 | (Yvan) Trees, Brook (Lynn) Trees, and Patrick Trees; his good | ||||||
6 | friend, Jesse Bustamante; his friend, John B. Hudson; the sons | ||||||
7 | to whom he was a father figure, Donald, Harrison, and Ho Chi; | ||||||
8 | his beloved dog, Max; a host of nieces and nephews; and all his | ||||||
9 | friends around the globe; therefore, be it

10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | John F. Trees and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
13 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of John Trees as an expression of our | ||||||
17 | deepest sympathy.
