| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Anna Marie Abdula of Waukegan, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on August 25, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Anna Abdula was born in Duluth, Minnesota to Mary | ||||||
6 | and Tom Brackett on February 16, 1928; her family relocated to | ||||||
7 | Waukegan in 1933, and she graduated from Waukegan Township High | ||||||
8 | School in 1947; she joined St. John's United Church of Christ, | ||||||
9 | where she sang in the choir and was a soloist for many special | ||||||
10 | occasions; she married Fred Abdula in 1949; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Anna Abdula, along with her husband Fred, founded | ||||||
12 | Air Con Refrigeration and Heating, a successful Waukegan-based | ||||||
13 | business now in its second generation of operation; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Anna Abdula was active in the local community; she | ||||||
15 | volunteered at local hospital nurseries and at her children's | ||||||
16 | school, where she was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the PTA | ||||||
17 | and was a founding member of the Washington School Book Club; | ||||||
18 | she also participated in several fundraising events which | ||||||
19 | benefitted local hospitals, such as the Festival of Trees, | ||||||
20 | Chef's Cuisine and the Affair of the Heart; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Anna Abdula and Fred were philanthropists and |

| |||||||
1 | donated resources for projects such as the refurbishment of the | ||||||
2 | Genesee Theater; their generous donation created the Abdula | ||||||
3 | Scholarship at the College of Lake County in 1995; her | ||||||
4 | achievements and contributions to causes that promoted the | ||||||
5 | advancement of women were recognized by the Park Place Center | ||||||
6 | and the Waukegan Township Board when she was presented with the | ||||||
7 | Woman of Honor Award in 2010; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Anna Abdula was never one to turn down a new | ||||||
9 | challenge, and she took up golf in her late fifties; she | ||||||
10 | enjoyed playing with her friends in the Ladies' League at the | ||||||
11 | country club; in her free time, she enjoyed baking, gardening, | ||||||
12 | entertaining, caring for her pets, and traveling; she will be | ||||||
13 | remembered for her roles as devoted wife, loyal friend, beloved | ||||||
14 | sibling, and loving mother; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Anna Abdula was preceded in death by her husband | ||||||
16 | of 63 years, Fred; her parents; her sister, Lois Brackett | ||||||
17 | Sisty; and her brother, Tom Brackett; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Anna Abdula is survived by her children, Linda | ||||||
19 | (James) Considine, Patrick Abdula, Michael Abdula, and Lisa | ||||||
20 | Abdula; and her many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Anna Marie Abdula and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
3 | further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Anna Abdula as an expression of our | ||||||
6 | deepest sympathy.
