| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Henry Albert "Alby" Plain of Springfield, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on April 19, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Alby Plain was born in Springfield to Henry U. and | ||||||
6 | Nova Brantley Plain on July 28, 1927; he attended Springfield | ||||||
7 | High School and graduated from The Todd School in 1945; he | ||||||
8 | served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated from | ||||||
9 | the University of Illinois in 1950; he was a varsity baseball | ||||||
10 | pitcher while at the University of Illinois and played | ||||||
11 | professional baseball for four years in the minor leagues for | ||||||
12 | the Chicago Cubs; he married Dolores Hashman in 1953; he | ||||||
13 | married Marian McDermott in 2000; and

14 | WHEREAS, Alby Plain became a teacher for the Springfield | ||||||
15 | School District in 1953 and was an assistant basketball coach | ||||||
16 | for Springfield High School when they won the championship in | ||||||
17 | 1959; he was the head basketball coach for Springfield High | ||||||
18 | School from 1962 to 1965; he received a master's degree from | ||||||
19 | Illinois State University in 1966 and became a counselor at | ||||||
20 | Springfield High School; he was the head counselor and | ||||||
21 | assistant principal at Springfield High School when he retired | ||||||
22 | in 1988; he was also the treasurer of the Springfield Teacher's | ||||||
23 | Credit Union for 12 years; and

1 | WHEREAS, During the summers from 1958 to 1970, Alby Plain | ||||||
2 | and Cliff Tozer ran TP Day Camp for Springfield youth; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Alby Plain was inducted into the Springfield | ||||||
4 | Sports Hall of Fame; he was member of Blessed Sacrament Parish | ||||||
5 | and the Sangamo Club and was a past member of the American | ||||||
6 | Business Club; he loved to play golf with his friends at The | ||||||
7 | Rail; and

8 | WHEREAS, Alby Plain was preceded in death by his first | ||||||
9 | wife, Dolores; his second wife, Marian; and his brother, | ||||||
10 | Richard Brantley Plain; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Alby Plain is survived by his daughter, Sally | ||||||
12 | Marie (Hank) Steining; his son, Henry Albert (Lisa) Plain Jr.; | ||||||
13 | his stepchildren, John Richard (Barb) McDermott Jr., Michael | ||||||
14 | Edwards "Muggs" (Denise) McDermott, Kevin Neerman McDermott, | ||||||
15 | Martha Louise "Cookie" McDermott, Maureen Lynn "Bubby" | ||||||
16 | (Travis) Wayne, John Peter McDermott, and Melissa Leigh | ||||||
17 | McDermott; his grandchildren, Caitlyn Jane Steining (Jay) | ||||||
18 | Wilson, Henry Albert (Jessica) Plain III, and Alexandra Marie | ||||||
19 | Plain (Tommy) Carter; and three great-grandchildren; | ||||||

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
2 | Henry Albert "Alby" Plain and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
3 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||

5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Alby Plain as an expression of our | ||||||
7 | deepest sympathy.
