2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Loretta Marie (Behrendt) Tvrdy of Elk | ||||||
4 | Grove Village, who passed away on July 2, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy was born to Joseph and Josephine | ||||||
6 | (Labno) Behrendt in Chicago on August 13, 1930; she attended | ||||||
7 | St. Hyacinth School and Alvernia High School; her mother later | ||||||
8 | married Bill Wadington, and he became an important part of her | ||||||
9 | life as an adult; she married Gerald "Jerry" Tvrdy on October | ||||||
10 | 22, 1955, and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1970; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy, in addition to being a devoted | ||||||
12 | wife and mother, worked as a learning center aide and then in | ||||||
13 | the human resources department at Community Consolidated | ||||||
14 | School District 59 in Elk Grove Village, retiring in 1995; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy was serious about her civic | ||||||
16 | responsibilities, serving as a longtime member of the League | ||||||
17 | of Women Voters; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy loved spending time with her | ||||||
19 | friends and family, especially her grandchildren and | ||||||
20 | great-grandchildren; she enjoyed traveling, experiencing | ||||||
21 | dinner theater, reading, and playing cards and board games, as |

1 | well as Mahjong on her ipad; she liked watching sports on | ||||||
2 | television and was a lifelong Cubs fan; she was also a great | ||||||
3 | fan of legal dramas, detective and mystery fiction, and | ||||||
4 | comedies; and

5 | WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy deeply loved and supported each of | ||||||
6 | her six children, whom she raised single-handedly after her | ||||||
7 | husband's passing; she will be remembered for her great, | ||||||
8 | infectious laugh and meeting all challenges thrown her way; | ||||||
9 | and

10 | WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy was preceded in death by her | ||||||
11 | parents; her siblings, Geri (Charlie) Race, Joan (Art) Geib, | ||||||
12 | Joe (Rita) Behrendt, and Bob (Karen) Behrendt; and her | ||||||
13 | great- | ||||||
grandchild, Noah; and

14 | WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy is survived by her children, Carol | ||||||
15 | (James) Zerkle, Ellen Tvrdy, Gayle (Robert) Fill, Stephen | ||||||
16 | Tvrdy, Laura (Jeff) Plys, and Gregory (Oksana) Tvrdy; her | ||||||
17 | grandchildren and their families, Adam (Karen) Zerkle, John | ||||||
18 | (Maureen) Zerkle, Michael (Emilie) Zerkle, Ariel | ||||||
19 | Blackshear-Tvrdy, Evan Blackshear-Tvrdy, Bryan (Heather) Fill, | ||||||
20 | Ashley Fill, Alyssa (Chad) Balmer, Erica Plys, and Marianna | ||||||
21 | (Marek) Ivanus; her great-grandchildren, Amelia, Walter, | ||||||
