SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Loretta Marie (Behrendt) Tvrdy of Elk
4Grove Village, who passed away on July 2, 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy was born to Joseph and Josephine
6(Labno) Behrendt in Chicago on August 13, 1930; she attended
7St. Hyacinth School and Alvernia High School; her mother later
8married Bill Wadington, and he became an important part of her
9life as an adult; she married Gerald "Jerry" Tvrdy on October
1022, 1955, and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1970; and
11 WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy, in addition to being a devoted
12wife and mother, worked as a learning center aide and then in
13the human resources department at Community Consolidated
14School District 59 in Elk Grove Village, retiring in 1995; and
15 WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy was serious about her civic
16responsibilities, serving as a longtime member of the League
17of Women Voters; and
18 WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy loved spending time with her
19friends and family, especially her grandchildren and
20great-grandchildren; she enjoyed traveling, experiencing
21dinner theater, reading, and playing cards and board games, as

1well as Mahjong on her ipad; she liked watching sports on
2television and was a lifelong Cubs fan; she was also a great
3fan of legal dramas, detective and mystery fiction, and
4comedies; and
5 WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy deeply loved and supported each of
6her six children, whom she raised single-handedly after her
7husband's passing; she will be remembered for her great,
8infectious laugh and meeting all challenges thrown her way;
9and
10 WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy was preceded in death by her
11parents; her siblings, Geri (Charlie) Race, Joan (Art) Geib,
12Joe (Rita) Behrendt, and Bob (Karen) Behrendt; and her
13great-
grandchild, Noah; and
14 WHEREAS, Loretta Tvrdy is survived by her children, Carol
15(James) Zerkle, Ellen Tvrdy, Gayle (Robert) Fill, Stephen
16Tvrdy, Laura (Jeff) Plys, and Gregory (Oksana) Tvrdy; her
17grandchildren and their families, Adam (Karen) Zerkle, John
18(Maureen) Zerkle, Michael (Emilie) Zerkle, Ariel
19Blackshear-Tvrdy, Evan Blackshear-Tvrdy, Bryan (Heather) Fill,
20Ashley Fill, Alyssa (Chad) Balmer, Erica Plys, and Marianna
21(Marek) Ivanus; her great-grandchildren, Amelia, Walter,
22Elora, Hannah, Landon, Ezra, Odin, Molly, Melanie, Julian, and
23Edwin; and her siblings, Terri (Lee) Szadorski and Tom

2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Loretta Marie (Behrendt) Tvrdy and extend our sincere
5condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
6her; and be it further
