2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of David C. "Dave" Sutton, Ph.D. of | ||||||
4 | Champaign, who passed away on April 2, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was born in Ardmore, Pennsylvania to | ||||||
6 | Robert M. Sutton and Grace Leeds Sutton on December 18, 1933; | ||||||
7 | he was raised as a Quaker; he attended Westtown School and | ||||||
8 | Haverford College; he earned his doctorate in physics from | ||||||
9 | Princeton University; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was a faculty member of the University | ||||||
11 | of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign until his retirement in 1990; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was a member of the Unitarian | ||||||
14 | Universalist Church of Urbana-Champaign; through UUCUC and | ||||||
15 | other organizations, he worked steadfastly to support social | ||||||
16 | action, racial justice, and criminal justice system reform; he | ||||||
17 | was a longtime member of the Champaign Ski Club, and he enjoyed | ||||||
18 | skiing downhill and freestyle; he also enjoyed singing | ||||||
19 | barbershop as well as in choir, spending time outdoors, and | ||||||
20 | visiting the Colorado Rockies, where he spent summers as a boy | ||||||
21 | and maintained close ties throughout his life; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was inquisitive, tenacious, funny, | ||||||
2 | and generous; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Dave Sutton was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
4 | and his brother, Robert Leeds Sutton; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dave Sutton is survived by his wife of 31 years, | ||||||
6 | Nancy M. Hanks-Sutton; his daughter, Eliza Leeds Sutton (John | ||||||
7 | D. Sahr); his grandson, John I. Sahr; and his nieces, Laura | ||||||
8 | Sutton-Barnes, Celia Pado, and Robin Sutton; therefore, be it
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
10 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
11 | David C. "Dave" Sutton and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
12 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
13 | further

14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
