2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
3 | congratulate former Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose on his | ||||||
4 | retirement from the NBA after 16 seasons; and

5 | WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was born and raised in the Englewood | ||||||
6 | neighborhood on Chicago's South Side and attended Simeon | ||||||
7 | Career Academy, where he helped the school become the first in | ||||||
8 | the Chicago Public League to win two straight state | ||||||
9 | championships in basketball; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was selected number one by the | ||||||
11 | Chicago Bulls out of the University of Memphis in the 2008 NBA | ||||||
12 | Draft; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Derrick Rose won NBA Rookie of the Year in 2009 | ||||||
14 | after averaging 16.8 points and 6.3 assists per game and | ||||||
15 | followed that with the first of his three All-Star seasons; | ||||||
16 | and

17 | WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was selected as NBA MVP at the age of | ||||||
18 | 22 in 2011 and is still the youngest player in league history | ||||||
19 | to win MVP; and

20 | WHEREAS, Derrick Rose averaged 19.7 points, 6.2 assists, |

1 | and 3.7 rebounds per game in seven seasons with the Bulls; and
