SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, About 20% of people, amounting to approximately
66 million Americans, live with a condition which could be
considered an invisible disability; and
WHEREAS, Nearly half of Americans are living with a
chronic medical condition, totaling 165 million people;
invisible disabilities include disabilities, chronic
illnesses, chronic pain, and injuries, and they may impact
people in the form of minor impairments to completely
disabling; and
WHEREAS, As created and defined by the Invisible
Disabilities Association (IDA), the term "invisible
disabilities" distinguishes disabilities not readily apparent
based upon just looking at someone, leading this person to
fight a battle seldom acknowledged by the outside world; and
WHEREAS, Without the obvious signs of disability, many of
those with invisible disabilities are accused of faking and
exaggerating their conditions, translating into a lack of
funding, accommodations, medical resources, medical diagnoses,
and overall support for those with invisible disabilities; and
WHEREAS, The IDA strives to encourage, educate, and

connect people and organizations touched by illness, pain, and
disability; with the help of the IDA, the world can become a
place where people living with illness, pain, and disability
will no longer be invisible; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare October 20
through October 26, 2024 as Invisible Disabilities Week in the
State of Illinois.
