SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, About 20% of people, amounting to approximately
366 million Americans, live with a condition which could be
4considered an invisible disability; and
5 WHEREAS, Nearly half of Americans are living with a
6chronic medical condition, totaling 165 million people;
7invisible disabilities include disabilities, chronic
8illnesses, chronic pain, and injuries, and they may impact
9people in the form of minor impairments to completely
10disabling; and
11 WHEREAS, As created and defined by the Invisible
12Disabilities Association (IDA), the term "invisible
13disabilities" distinguishes disabilities not readily apparent
14based upon just looking at someone, leading this person to
15fight a battle seldom acknowledged by the outside world; and
16 WHEREAS, Without the obvious signs of disability, many of
17those with invisible disabilities are accused of faking and
18exaggerating their conditions, translating into a lack of
19funding, accommodations, medical resources, medical diagnoses,
20and overall support for those with invisible disabilities; and
21 WHEREAS, The IDA strives to encourage, educate, and

1connect people and organizations touched by illness, pain, and
2disability; with the help of the IDA, the world can become a
3place where people living with illness, pain, and disability
4will no longer be invisible; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare October 20
7through October 26, 2024 as Invisible Disabilities Week in the
8State of Illinois.
