SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Cranston Oliver Byrd of Waukegan, who
4passed away on May 2, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Cranston Byrd was born to Jeanette and Arthur Byrd
6in Waukegan on November 30, 1946; he graduated from Waukegan
7High School in 1964; he worked a number of odd jobs before
8making the decision to attend Southern Illinois University in
9Carbondale, majoring in drafting and architecture; he married
10Barbara A. Vernon on August 24, 1968; and
11 WHEREAS, in 1968, Cranston Byrd went to work for Lake
12County as a draftsman, later earning the promotion to zoning
13administrator; in 1980, he took on a new challenge as the
14director of planning for the City of North Chicago; he returned
15to Lake County in 1982, where he became Deputy Director of
16Community and Economic Development; and
17 WHEREAS, Cranston Byrd had a deep faith; he loved life and
18his friends and family; his wisdom and sense of humor will be
19missed; and
20 WHEREAS, Cranston Byrd was preceded in death by his
21parents; his uncle, Raymond Randell; and his aunts, Helen

1Larrea and Mary Alice Barker; and
2 WHEREAS, Cranston Byrd is survived by his sons, Brandt,
3Christopher, and Eric; his former spouse, Barbara; his uncle,
4Ron Suggs; his two grandchildren; his cousins; and his best
5friend, Robert Brown; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Cranston Oliver Byrd and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Cranston Byrd as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
