2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Michael Thomas "Mike" Sierra of | ||||||
4 | Peoria, who passed away on November 9, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mike Sierra was born in East Moline to Julien | ||||||
6 | Terronez Sierra and Kathleen (Reyes) Sierra on August 7, 1948; | ||||||
7 | he graduated from the Spalding Institute in Peoria in 1966 and | ||||||
8 | received his Bachelor of Arts from Sangamon State University | ||||||
9 | (University of Illinois Springfield); and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Mike Sierra was the stage manager for the Peoria | ||||||
11 | Symphony Orchestra for three seasons and served as staff | ||||||
12 | assistant to U.S. Senator Adlai Stevenson III in his | ||||||
13 | Springfield office; he retired from the State of Illinois | ||||||
14 | Guardianship and Advocacy Commission after 23 years, rising to | ||||||
15 | the position of regional administration manager for the Peoria | ||||||
16 | area; and

17 | WHEREAS, Mike Sierra loved and valued friends and family | ||||||
18 | above all; he enjoyed playing tennis, softball, baseball, and | ||||||
19 | swimming; he attended various concerts and theater | ||||||
20 | performances throughout Peoria; he was a Civil War buff and | ||||||
21 | visited numerous battlefields throughout the country; a | ||||||
22 | lifelong learner, he attended numerous Osher Lifelong Learning |

1 | Institutes classes at Bradley University; he was a fan of the | ||||||
2 | Chicago White Sox throughout his entire life; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Mike Sierra was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
4 | and his brother, Joseph; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mike Sierra is survived by his daughter, Melissa | ||||||
6 | Sierra (Dan Johnston); his sisters, Marty (Ed) Sierra Perry, | ||||||
7 | Stephanie (Tom) Sierra Theado, Mary Sierra, Rebecca Sierra, | ||||||
8 | and Lisa (Rick) Campbell; his brothers, Jerome (Linda) Sierra, | ||||||
9 | Timothy (Rita) Sierra, and Julien Sierra; and many nieces and | ||||||
10 | nephews; therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
13 | Michael Thomas "Mike" Sierra and extend our sincere | ||||||
14 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
