2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Mary Lou "Doll" Glover, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on December 15, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mary Glover, the daughter of Tommie Lee Harlan | ||||||
6 | Sr. and Viola Patterson, was born in Macon, Mississippi on | ||||||
7 | August 20, 1938; she committed to her faith at an early age and | ||||||
8 | was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Macon, | ||||||
9 | where she was an active member; she graduated from Noxubee | ||||||
10 | County High School in Mississippi in 1958; she relocated to | ||||||
11 | Charleston, South Carolina after high school and then to | ||||||
12 | Detroit, Michigan in 1959; she married Andrew Lee Glover; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Mary Glover held several positions while working | ||||||
14 | at the Navy Exchange, including as supervisor of the Camera | ||||||
15 | Department; during her husband's 27-year career in the U.S. | ||||||
16 | Navy, she managed the household when he was stationed | ||||||
17 | overseas, including taking care of the finances and | ||||||
18 | chauffeuring her children to and from school and other | ||||||
19 | activities; she also coordinated packing and relocating to | ||||||
20 | various states when it was time to move; and

21 | WHEREAS, Mary Glover joined First Baptist Church of North | ||||||
22 | Chicago around 1989, where she served as a pastor's aide, a |

1 | member of the Kitchen Committee, and a deaconess; she also | ||||||
2 | coordinated the annual Valentine's Day tea and Women's Day | ||||||
3 | choir, and she made many beautiful and delicious cakes and | ||||||
4 | meals for various church events and other special occasions; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mary Glover was gifted at gardening, being | ||||||
7 | recognized with several Yard of the Month awards, and she was a | ||||||
8 | skilled seamstress who participated in many fashion shows and | ||||||
9 | designed her daughter's wedding dress; she also loved | ||||||
10 | photography, cooking, and cake decorating; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Mary Glover valued her family above everything | ||||||
12 | else, and she was known for her dynamic smile and laugh; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Mary Glover was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
14 | her brothers, Tommie Lee Harlan Jr., Otha L. Harlan Sr., Bobby | ||||||
15 | Harlan, and Leon Harlan; and her sisters, Clara (Willie) | ||||||
16 | Oliver, Ollie (John) Harlan, and Earlene Harlan; and

17 | WHEREAS, Mary Glover is survived by her husband, Andrew; | ||||||
18 | her children, Andrew (Jan) Glover and Lorraine (Rev. Rick) | ||||||
19 | Harris; two grandchildren; her sisters, Pecola Harlan, Marion | ||||||
20 | "Mildred" (Earl) Booker, and Bonnie (Julius) Beck; her | ||||||
21 | brothers, Levarn (Bonnie) Harlan, Clarence (Rosie) Harlan, and | ||||||
22 | Ernest "Red" (Orlena) Harlan; her sister-in-law, Gaynell |

3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
5 | Mary Lou "Doll" Glover and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
6 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
