| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Annette Reid Nolan, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | January 23, 2022 at the age of 83; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan was born to Reverend Milton | ||||||
6 | Prentiss Reid and Myra W. Phelps in Fort Smith, Arkansas on | ||||||
7 | November 23, 1938; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan was smart and athletic; she | ||||||
9 | played piano in church and won a statewide singing contest in | ||||||
10 | Virginia; she was crowned homecoming queen her senior year of | ||||||
11 | high school; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan lived in Richmond, Virginia | ||||||
13 | and worked at the Bank of Richmond; she went to nursing school | ||||||
14 | at Birmingham Baptist Hospital, met her husband, and | ||||||
15 | participated in the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama; she and | ||||||
16 | her husband moved to Chicago around 1966; and

17 | WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan found her calling in | ||||||
18 | psychiatry, working as a psychiatric nurse at Michael Reese | ||||||
19 | Hospital and as a nurse manager on a psychiatric-substance use | ||||||
20 | inpatient unit at the Hines VA Medical Center; and

1 | WHEREAS, Annette Reid Nolan earned a Bachelor of Arts in | ||||||
2 | Art History from St. Xavier University; she loved reading, | ||||||
3 | bird-watching, action movies, football, koi ponds, driving | ||||||
4 | fast, gardening, cooking Indian and Mexican dinners, the Sugar | ||||||
5 | Hill Gang, civic involvement, MSNBC, Stephen Colbert, and | ||||||
6 | watching dolphins swim the Atlantic from her porch perch in | ||||||
7 | Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; she offered an accepting, loving | ||||||
8 | ear for one's personal crisis, struggle, or story; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, At the time of her passing, Annette Reid Nolan | ||||||
10 | was survived by her children, Kisten Devine Nolan and Verdant | ||||||
11 | (Philip Ravia Reid) Nolan; her grandchildren, Nicholas Philip | ||||||
12 | Laughton, Kye (Kisten Leslie) Nolan, Thea Day Atkins, and | ||||||
13 | Kendall Brinkley Laughton; and many nieces and nephews; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | Annette Reid Nolan and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
18 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Annette Reid Nolan as an expression | ||||||
22 | of our deepest sympathy.
