| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Richard Joseph Hoeniges of Bloomington, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on July 26, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges was born to Martin J. and Eileen | ||||||
6 | Hoeniges on December 7, 1937; he graduated from Trinity High | ||||||
7 | School in 1956 and joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1957; he | ||||||
8 | married Gloria Ann Sweeney on January 10, 1959; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges joined the Bloomington Police | ||||||
10 | Department in 1960 and served his community for 31 years, | ||||||
11 | retiring as a detective; he was affectionately called "Pops" by | ||||||
12 | his fellow officers; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges had a deep faith and played an | ||||||
14 | active part in the Cursillo movement; he started a chaplain | ||||||
15 | program at the police department and served tirelessly at St. | ||||||
16 | Mary's Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen; he was a man full of | ||||||
17 | love, compassion, honesty, humility and grace; he had a natural | ||||||
18 | ability to lift the spirits of those around him using his | ||||||
19 | charm, kindness and dry sense of humor; he enjoyed living life | ||||||
20 | to the fullest; and

21 | WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges was preceded in death by his |

1 | parents; his brothers, Andrew and John Hoeniges; numerous | ||||||
2 | sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and two nephews; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges is survived by his wife of over | ||||||
4 | 61 years, Gloria; his sons, Richard (Mary) Hoeniges II, Robert | ||||||
5 | (Robin) Hoeniges, James (Laura) Hoeniges, Daniel (Julie) | ||||||
6 | Hoeniges, and Joseph (Carol) Hoeniges; his daughter, Mauria | ||||||
7 | (Kenneth) Herman; his grandchildren, Levi, Maurice, Noah, | ||||||
8 | Jared, Erik, Abigail, Jack, Kain, Chelsea, Lily, Ivy, Jazmine, | ||||||
9 | Kaleb, Tacoma, and Kole; his great-grandchildren, Malia, Luna, | ||||||
10 | Avery, and Violet; his siblings, Martin Hoeniges, Florence (E. | ||||||
11 | Michael) Walsh, Marie Evans, Patricia (Dan) Richardson, and | ||||||
12 | Elizabeth (Dale) Kindred; his sisters-in-law, Tammy Hoeniges, | ||||||
13 | Phyllis Prochnow, and Ruth Sweeney; his brother-in-law, John | ||||||
14 | (Debba) Sweeney; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | Richard Joseph Hoeniges and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
18 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Richard Hoeniges as an expression of | ||||||
22 | our deepest sympathy.
