2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Bernice M. Bittner, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | July 14, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bernice Bittner was born on May 9, 1923; her | ||||||
6 | parents were Herman and Elizabeth (nee Finncutter) Kristan; she | ||||||
7 | married Clarence "Pat" Bittner on January 8, 1944; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Bernice Bittner attended Holy Family Grade School | ||||||
9 | and Waukegan High School; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, In 1965, Bernice Bittner and her husband moved to | ||||||
11 | the north side of Waukegan; they enjoyed square dancing and | ||||||
12 | ballroom dancing at the Swedish Glee Club and would often | ||||||
13 | practice their dance moves in the basement of their home on | ||||||
14 | Walnut Street; they also liked traveling to visit their son Bob | ||||||
15 | and his family to whatever location the Air Force had stationed | ||||||
16 | him at the time; and

17 | WHEREAS, Bernice Bittner was a stay-at-home mom, but later | ||||||
18 | worked in the Waukegan High School cafeteria; after the death | ||||||
19 | of her husband in August of 1988, she became a volunteer at the | ||||||
20 | former Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan; and

1 | WHEREAS, Bernice Bittner enjoyed sewing, crocheting, | ||||||
2 | playing pinochle with her friends, reading Danielle Steele | ||||||
3 | novels, and getting her hair done at the beauty shop; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Bernice Bittner was a member of St. Anastasia and | ||||||
5 | St. Dismas Churches; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Bernice Bittner was preceded in death by 3 | ||||||
7 | siblings, Joseph Kristan, Anges Mahler, and Rita Madruh; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Bernice Bittner is survived by 2 children, Robert | ||||||
9 | "Bob" (Christine) Bittner and Joan Steffens; 4 grandchildren, | ||||||
10 | Robert "Rob" Bittner, Jennifer (Roger) Ham, Timothy "Tim" | ||||||
11 | (Heidi) Steffens, and Andrew "Andy" Steffens; and 5 | ||||||
12 | great-grandchildren, Laney, Tallon, and Marley Ham and Kendall | ||||||
13 | and Chad Steffens; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | ||||||
16 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Bernice M. Bittner; | ||||||
17 | and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Bernice Bittner as an expression of | ||||||
20 | our sympathy.
