SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Paula M.E. Hafner of Normal, who passed
away on April 4, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Paula Hafner was born in Toronto, Canada to Paul
B.H. and Margaret (Dunn) Smith on December 28, 1946; she earned
her Master of Arts in Elementary Education; she married Fred
Hafner in Peoria on August 30, 1969; and
WHEREAS, Paula Hafner was a teacher; she later started her
own business, and then continued her work at State Farm, where
she retired after 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Paula Hafner volunteered at many local schools;
she served those in need and showered her family and friends
with love; and
WHEREAS, Paula Hafner was preceded in death by her
daughter, Rachel; and
WHEREAS, Paula Hafner is survived by her husband, Fred; her
sons, F.J. and Patrick (Heather); her grandchildren, Maya,
Tyre, Haleigh, Keewan, Hannah, Alejandra, Hayes, and Declan;
her great-grandchildren, Marquan, Ja'Quan, and Elijah; her

sister, Anne Carignan; and her daughter-in-law, Tracy Hafner;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Paula M.E. Hafner and extend our sincere condolences to her
family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Paula Hafner as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
