| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of James Paul "Jim" Sczepaniak, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on November 9, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak was born on December 1, 1935 in | ||||||
6 | Joliet; his parents were Stanley and Rose (nee Petan) | ||||||
7 | Sczepaniak; he was a lifetime resident of Joliet; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak graduated from St. Joseph | ||||||
9 | Catholic Grade School, Joliet Township High School District 204 | ||||||
10 | (Class of 1953), and Joliet Junior College; he subsequently | ||||||
11 | received a bachelor's degree from Lewis University and a | ||||||
12 | master's degree from Northern Illinois University; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak served his country as a member of | ||||||
14 | the United States Army; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak retired after 33 years of | ||||||
16 | dedicated service as a social studies teacher at Lockport | ||||||
17 | Township High School District 205 and Valley View School | ||||||
18 | District 365 U (Romeoville High School); and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak took great pride in his civic | ||||||
20 | involvement; he proudly served on the Joliet Public Library |

1 | Board of Trustees for more than 30 years, most recently as | ||||||
2 | President of the Board; he was also an active member of St. | ||||||
3 | Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet, the Holy Name Society of St. | ||||||
4 | Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Catholic Church Seniors, | ||||||
5 | Oakwood Estates Homeowners Association, and the Illinois | ||||||
6 | Retired Teacher's Association; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak enjoyed stamp and coin | ||||||
8 | collecting; he also greatly enjoyed taking pictures and sending | ||||||
9 | them to his many relatives, friends, and acquaintances; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak was preceded in death by his | ||||||
11 | first wife, Mary Clare (nee Gordon), and his parents; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, James Sczepaniak was the beloved husband of 5 | ||||||
13 | years to Frances H. Naal (nee Tures); the loving brother of | ||||||
14 | Lois M. Geary; the brother-in-law of James (Joann) Gordon; the | ||||||
15 | dear uncle of Kim Ann (Wayne) Meirhofer and Steven P. (Shirley | ||||||
16 | Boatman) Geary; he is also survived by his step-children, Meg | ||||||
17 | (Dale) Underwood, Jr., John (Micki) Naal, and Colette Naal and | ||||||
18 | many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, beloved | ||||||
19 | students, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
22 | family and friends, mourn the passing of James Paul "Jim" |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
