SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Roy Carpenter, who passed away on June
26, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was born on May 9, 1927 in
Coulterville; his parents were Don Dillard and Lillie May
Carpenter; he married Mary Pedersen on July 1, 1956 at the
First Congregational Church of Moline; and
WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter served his country in the United
States Marine Corps in 1945 in Japan; he also served in the
United States Army in active duty during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter proudly retired from John Deere Plow
Planter in 1985 after 34 years of service; after his
retirement, he enjoyed staying busy and went to work for
Andalusia Township, plowing snow and repairing roads; and
WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter and his wife were members of the
Good SAM Camping Club and enjoyed their adventures together in
their motorhome as they visited family and camped with friends;
he was one of the original members of the Antique Engine and
Tractor Association; he and several other members were honored
at the organization's 50-year celebration in 2011; he was also

a member of the Two Cylinder Club and the Fin, Fur, and Feather
Conservation Club, and looked forward to helping out at the
fish frys in Illinois City; and
WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter loved being outdoors and would
always accept an invitation for a day of fishing; he designed
his own garage and spent many hours tinkering, listening to the
old country favorites, and pulling out lawn chairs and enjoying
a beer while watching the rain through the open garage door
with a friend or family member; and
WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was preceded in death by his wife,
Mary; his parents; and his brothers, Charles and Reuben; and
WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was the father of Nancy (Larry)
Stimson, Lisa (Bill) Elliott, and Carol (Stuart) Ehlert; the
grandfather of Hannah (Matt) Hogan, Sarah (Lee) Zeglin, Jordan
Ehlert, and Aubrey (Brad) Koenig; and the great-grandfather of
Lucy, Carson, and Wade Koenig and Lincoln and Violet Zeglin;
and the brother of Marjorie Shipp, George Carpenter, and Irma
Burrill; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
family and friends, mourn the passing of Roy Carpenter; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Roy Carpenter as an expression of
our sympathy.
