| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Roy Carpenter, who passed away on June | ||||||
4 | 26, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was born on May 9, 1927 in | ||||||
6 | Coulterville; his parents were Don Dillard and Lillie May | ||||||
7 | Carpenter; he married Mary Pedersen on July 1, 1956 at the | ||||||
8 | First Congregational Church of Moline; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter served his country in the United | ||||||
10 | States Marine Corps in 1945 in Japan; he also served in the | ||||||
11 | United States Army in active duty during the Korean War; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter proudly retired from John Deere Plow | ||||||
13 | Planter in 1985 after 34 years of service; after his | ||||||
14 | retirement, he enjoyed staying busy and went to work for | ||||||
15 | Andalusia Township, plowing snow and repairing roads; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter and his wife were members of the | ||||||
17 | Good SAM Camping Club and enjoyed their adventures together in | ||||||
18 | their motorhome as they visited family and camped with friends; | ||||||
19 | he was one of the original members of the Antique Engine and | ||||||
20 | Tractor Association; he and several other members were honored | ||||||
21 | at the organization's 50-year celebration in 2011; he was also |

1 | a member of the Two Cylinder Club and the Fin, Fur, and Feather | ||||||
2 | Conservation Club, and looked forward to helping out at the | ||||||
3 | fish frys in Illinois City; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter loved being outdoors and would | ||||||
5 | always accept an invitation for a day of fishing; he designed | ||||||
6 | his own garage and spent many hours tinkering, listening to the | ||||||
7 | old country favorites, and pulling out lawn chairs and enjoying | ||||||
8 | a beer while watching the rain through the open garage door | ||||||
9 | with a friend or family member; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
11 | Mary; his parents; and his brothers, Charles and Reuben; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was the father of Nancy (Larry) | ||||||
13 | Stimson, Lisa (Bill) Elliott, and Carol (Stuart) Ehlert; the | ||||||
14 | grandfather of Hannah (Matt) Hogan, Sarah (Lee) Zeglin, Jordan | ||||||
15 | Ehlert, and Aubrey (Brad) Koenig; and the great-grandfather of | ||||||
16 | Lucy, Carson, and Wade Koenig and Lincoln and Violet Zeglin; | ||||||
17 | and the brother of Marjorie Shipp, George Carpenter, and Irma | ||||||
18 | Burrill; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
21 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Roy Carpenter; and be | ||||||
22 | it further
