2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Tanilo "Tony" Soliz of Moline, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on August 4, 2016 at the age of 87; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Tanilo Soliz was born in Silvis; his parents were | ||||||
6 | Augustine G. and Tomasa Lopez Soliz; he married Patricia | ||||||
7 | Quinones on March 8, 1952 in Moline; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Tanilo Soliz was a United States Navy veteran, | ||||||
9 | having served on the USS DeHaven during the Korean War; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Tanilo Soliz owned and operated Tony's Barber Shop | ||||||
11 | in Moline for more than 63 years; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Tanilo Soliz was a member of Moline American | ||||||
13 | Legion Post 246, East Moline Veterans of Foreign Wars Post | ||||||
14 | 8890, and the Korean Veterans and the Mexican American Golf | ||||||
15 | League, where he served as president; he served as president of | ||||||
16 | the Hero Street Monument Committee; he was also a member of | ||||||
17 | Bettendorf Apostolic Church under Pastor David Medina and a | ||||||
18 | member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Tanilo Soliz coached baseball for many years and | ||||||
20 | sponsored many sports teams through his barber shop; he was an |

1 | avid golfer and artist; he organized many golf tournaments | ||||||
2 | throughout the Quad-Cities and painted many portraits for the | ||||||
3 | John Deere Classic; he gave golf lessons through the YMCA, | ||||||
4 | sponsored and played on many bowling leagues, and was a former | ||||||
5 | Golden Gloves champion; he was also the band manager for Next | ||||||
6 | to None for many years and loved music, especially mariachi | ||||||
7 | music; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Tanilo Soliz was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
9 | his wife, Patricia; his son, John; two brothers; and his | ||||||
10 | sister; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Tanilo Soliz is survived by his children, Stuart | ||||||
12 | (Teresa) Soliz, Bruce (Yvette) Soliz, and Cynthia Soliz; his | ||||||
13 | grandchildren, Adam, John, Monica, Brandi, Jim, Austin, | ||||||
14 | Vanessa, Anthony, Nathan, and Marisa; his great-grandchildren, | ||||||
15 | Jennica, Ysenia, James, Eliana, Noah, Jaxson, Mateo, Bella, | ||||||
16 | Calix, Andres, John James, and Baby Isaiah on the way; and his | ||||||
17 | siblings, Frank Soliz, Sonny Soliz, Tony Soliz, Tom (Shelia) | ||||||
18 | Soliz, Margaret Guajardo, Tessie Soliz, Edmundo (Lorena) | ||||||
19 | Soliz, and Isabel Sanchez; therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
22 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Tanilo "Tony" Soliz; | ||||||
23 | and be it further
