2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Clifton E. "Gene" Black of Taylorville, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on September 27, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Clifton Black was born on August 25, 1931 in | ||||||
6 | Haleyville, Alabama; his parents were William Isaac and Grace | ||||||
7 | Black; he married Carol Mathon on June 5, 1955 in Taylorville; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Clifton Black was a veteran of the United States | ||||||
10 | Army and was stationed in Germany; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, As a young man, Clifton Black was a broadcast | ||||||
12 | engineer for WTIM in Taylorville and WMAY in Springfield and a | ||||||
13 | television repairman at Higgason TV and Appliance; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Clifton Black and his wife spent many hours | ||||||
15 | remodeling houses for his children and grandchildren, which | ||||||
16 | taught them the value of hard work and dedication; in his later | ||||||
17 | years, he became the project manager of house remodeling and | ||||||
18 | new construction builds, watching his family follow in his | ||||||
19 | footsteps; and

20 | WHEREAS, Clifton Black was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and |

1 | enjoyed watching them win their 100th game this season; he also | ||||||
2 | enjoyed spending time with his family; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Clifton Black was preceded in death by his | ||||||
4 | parents; three brothers; and one sister; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Clifton Black is survived by his wife of 61 years, | ||||||
6 | Carol Black; his children, Susan (George) Calvert, Jane | ||||||
7 | Griffith, Doug (Carla) Black, Lisa (Dan) Nieves, and Lori | ||||||
8 | Smothers; his grandchildren, Amy (Ben) Winans, Aaron (fiancee | ||||||
9 | Malissa) Calvert, Keri (Lee) Mateer, Kati Griffith, Ryne | ||||||
10 | Griffith, Blake Thomas, Connor Black, Jodi (Aaron) Acree, | ||||||
11 | Cassidy Nieves, Reagan Nieves, Adan Nieves, Livia Nieves, Jesse | ||||||
12 | (Kayla) Smothers, and Jacob Smothers; his great-grandchildren, | ||||||
13 | Eric, Travis, and Lilly Winans, Ellee, Emlyn, Eileen, and | ||||||
14 | Eloise Mateer, Carter Thomas, Jayden, Adalyn, and Amelia Acree, | ||||||
15 | and Ryker and Hadley Smothers; his sisters, Marie Marbutt, Faye | ||||||

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
20 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Clifton E. "Gene" | ||||||
21 | Black; and be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
