RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the University of
Southern Indiana baseball team.
Whereas, The University of Southern Indiana (USI)
baseball team became the NCAA Division II National
Champions with a 6-4 victory over the number-one ranked
University of California San Diego;
Whereas, With this victory, the USI Screaming Eagles
become the first team from the Midwest Region and the first
in the state of Indiana to win a national championship in
baseball;
Whereas, The ninth-ranked Screaming Eagles ended the
2010 season with a 52-14 overall record, establishing a new
school record;
Whereas, The Screaming Eagles finished the season strong,
winning 42 of the last 49 games and posting a 13-2 record in
post-season play;
Whereas, Sophomore second baseman Brad Vance was
named the NCAA II Regional Most Valuable Player;
Whereas, Junior pitcher Taylor Dennis was named the
Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA II National
Championship series;
Whereas, In recognition of his outstanding abilities, Head Coach Tracy Archuleta was named the American Baseball
Coaches Association Division II Coach of the Year, and the
American Baseball Coaches Association and National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Midwest Region
Coach of the Year;
Whereas, During his four seasons with the Screaming
Eagles, Coach Archuleta has guided the baseball program to
a 170-76 (.691) record and three-straight Great Lakes Valley
Conference West Division titles, two regional crowns, and a
national championship;
Whereas, The University of Southern Indiana players and
coaches credit the fans' support and encouragement
throughout the season for their victory; and
Whereas, Outstanding accomplishments such as this
deserve special recognition: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates the
University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles on their NCAA
Division II National Championship and wishes them continued success
in all their future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to the head coach,
assistant coaches, and players of the University of Southern Indiana
Screaming Eagles.
