Lafayette on being awarded the National Science Teaching Award from
the National Science Teaching Association.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Joe Ruhl of
Lafayette on being awarded the National Science Teaching Award from
the National Science Teaching Association.
Whereas, On February 2nd, 2012, Joe Ruhl, biology
teacher at Lafayette Jefferson High School and head of the
high school's science department, was recognized as the top
science educator in the country
by the National Science
Teaching Association, who named him the winner of their
National Science Teaching Award;
Whereas, Mr. Ruhl received a Bachelor of Science in
Biology from Purdue University in 1977, and a Master of
Science in Biology Education, again from Purdue, in 1980;
Whereas, Mr. Ruhl has spent every year but one of his
professional career in Indiana educating Hoosier students in
the scientific and technological knowledge they will need to
succeed in the modern economy; and,
Whereas, Before being recognized this year by the National Science Teaching Association, Mr. Ruhl was already known across the state and nation-wide as an extremely accomplished and decorated teacher, having already received, among many other citations, the Outstanding Biology Teacher of Indiana Award in 1987, the
Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching in
1989, and the Purdue University School of Science
Distinguished Alumnus Award for Excellence in K-12
Teaching in 1996: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates Joe Ruhl of Lafayette Jefferson High School on his receipt of the National Science Teaching Award from the National Science Teaching Association, recognizes his life-long personal and professional commitment to educating generations of Hoosier students in science and technology, and thanks him for his hard work and dedication on behalf of his neighbors, his community and his state.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House transmit a copy of this resolution to Joe Ruhl at Lafayette Jefferson High School.
