A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating former
Governor Edgar Whitcomb on his marriage.
Whereas, Congratulations are in order for former
Governor Edgar Whitcomb and his long-time sweetheart;
Whereas, Indiana's 43rd Governor, Edgar Whitcomb, and
Evelyn Gayer were married February 16, 2013, in their
home along the Ohio River in Rome, Indiana, in a ceremony
performed by a Methodist minister who lives down the street;
Whereas, Evelyn, a retired librarian, met the former
Governor 12 years ago at a computer class, and the two have
been together ever since;
Whereas, Evelyn began visiting Edgar everyday at his
home, but she drove home every evening;
Whereas, Edgar worried about her navigating country
roads alone in the dark, so he built her a home on his
property;
Whereas, The couple's decision to marry was made when
some friends, who had been married at Edgar's home five
years earlier, were visiting;
Whereas, Edgar and Evelyn married on their friends'
anniversary, with them serving as the only witnesses to the
ceremony;
Whereas, Governor Whitcomb served his state and his country in times of war and peace, and he is a dedicated Hoosier whose contributions to our state and nation will be felt for generations to come; and
Whereas, The Indiana General Assembly and the people of
the state of Indiana wish the best for Edgar and Evelyn
Whitcomb: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the General Assembly wishes to extend its
