A RESOLUTION honoring the Federated Church of
Brookston.
Whereas, The Federated Church of Brookston marked its
90th anniversary in 2009;
Whereas, The federation of the Baptist church and the
Presbyterian church in Brookston is the oldest federation in
Indiana;
Whereas, The Federated Church of Brookston was founded
in 1919 when the Union Baptist Church and the First
Presbyterian Church voted to become one congregation;
Whereas, Their goal in uniting was "to better fulfill their
common mission in the community, to conserve the resources
of the Kingdom of God, and to promote the unity of His
disciples";
Whereas, Rev. Clayton C. Brown served as the first pastor
of the Federated Church of Brookston;
Whereas, The Federated Church of Brookston is affiliated
with the American Baptist Church and the United Presbyterian
Church (USA);
Whereas, The church participates actively in both
denominations and calls pastors from both on an alternating
basis; and
Whereas, For 90 years the members of the Federated
Church of Brookston have been guided by their original goal as
they spread the Gospel with joy and expectation: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates the Federated Church of Brookston on the 90th anniversary of its founding. The pastors and congregation have continuously worked to spread the work of Christ and promote unity among all.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Pastor Lelan McReynolds.
