A HOUSE RESOLUTION memorializing Timothy
McCormick and Cody Medley.
Whereas, Private Timothy McCormick, 24, was killed after
a collision early February 16 at the intersection of Senate
Avenue and St. Clair Street in downtown Indianapolis;
Whereas, Specialist Cody Medley, 22, passed away Sunday
as a result of the injuries he sustained in the accident;
Whereas, Timothy McCormick and Cody Medley had just
left Methodist Hospital when their ambulance was hit by a car
that ran a red light, tipping the ambulance over and pushing it
into a parked car;
Whereas, These brave men are the first EMS workers in Indianapolis to die in the line of duty;
Whereas, Cody Medley went to high school in Scranton,
Pennsylvania, and began his career with the Sunman, Indiana,
Fire Department;
Whereas, At 17, Cody Medley started as a cadet for the
Sunman Fire Department and later earned his firefighter
certification;
Whereas, Cody Medley was focused on his career while at
the Sunman Fire Department and was recognized by those in
authority as someone who would have a great career;
Whereas, After three years, Cody Medley was hired as a
paramedic in Indianapolis and spent the next three years taking
care of the people in Marion County in their time of extreme
need;
Whereas, Timothy McCormick was an Eagle Scout, college
student, and professional EMT;
Whereas, Timothy McCormick had been a part of the
Indianapolis EMS team for the past three years;
Whereas, Although he was a New York native, Timothy had
quickly become a part of the Indianapolis community;
Whereas, Cody Medley and Timothy McCormick touched
the lives of many; they were true angels of mercy and
compassion; and
Whereas, Cody Medley and Timothy McCormick gave their
lives in the line of duty; they will forever be remembered as
heroes: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives extends its deepest sympathy to the families of these two brave men as well as to their extended family of EMTs throughout the state of Indiana, and
expresses its gratitude for the service they rendered to those in need.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to the families of
Cody Medley and Timothy McCormick.
