        A RESOLUTION recognizing Sikh Americans.
    

    Whereas, Sikh Americans are a spiritual community established upon a foundation of faith that encourages not only meditation and reverence for God, but also devotion to righteous labor, sharing, and service;

    Whereas, By these core values, Sikh Americans have influenced the spiritual, political, and social landscape of the United States of America by practicing equality, pursuing justice, promoting human rights, and recognizing the sanctity of all faiths and spiritual traditions;

    Whereas, The United States benefits from over 800,000 Sikh citizens who loyally serve their communities and country

in every way, at every level, wherever they live, work, and raise their families;

    Whereas, From 1967 to 2009, Indiana's Sikh population has multiplied from a single family to 2,500 families that represent a community laying the foundation and achieving the reality of the American dream;

    Whereas, The three Sikh temples in Indiana not only nurture the faith of the Sikh people, but also the surrounding community with generous acts of charity and leadership by example; and

    Whereas, Sikh Americans have contributed to the overall prosperity of Indiana through their businesses, participation in the military, agriculture, sports, medicine, science, engineering, the arts, and the service industry: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives recognizes the many contributions made by Sikh Americans and their dedicated service to their community, state, and nation.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the three Sikh temples in Indiana.
