A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating Rachel Houck.
Whereas, Mt. Vernon High School senior guard Rachel
Houck was named the winner of the Patricia L. Roy Mental
Attitude Award in Class 3A Girls Basketball by the members of
the Indiana High School Athletic Association's Executive
Committee;
Whereas, Although best known for her prowess on the
softball diamond, Rachel Houck is an outstanding basketball
player who has scored over 900 points in her career;
Whereas, Head coach Julie Shelton calls Rachel Houck "the heart and soul of our team";
Whereas, Rachel Houck, a three year starter, averaged nearly 11.5 points and four assists for the 23 - 4 Mt. Vernon Marauders;
Whereas, Rachel Houck holds the school record for steals
in a season and in a career and was a Hoosier Heritage
All-Conference selection the past two years;
Whereas, In addition to her prowess on the court, Rachel
excels in the classroom;
Whereas, Rachel Houck maintains a 3.8 grade point
average through honor and advanced placement courses and
ranks in the top 15% of her class;
Whereas, Rachel has attended the Indiana High School
Athletic Association Student Leadership Conference for three
years, is a DARE Role Model, and has been a NASA Council
Representative;
Whereas, Rachel will attend the University of Louisville on
a softball scholarship and plans to major in exercise science;
and
Whereas, Rachel Houck is an outstanding representative of
the student athletes at Mt. Vernon High School and a deserving
winner of the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates Rachel Houck on being selected as the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award winner in Class 3A Girls Basketball and wishes her continued success in all her future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Rachel Houck and her parents Ken and Mary, head coach Julie Shelton, girls athletic director Greg Roach, principal Bernie Campbell, and superintendent Dr. Bill Riggs.
