A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Representative
Richard Dodge.
Whereas, Representative Richard Dodge, who was first
elected to represent the citizens of House District 51 in 2004,
will be leaving the House chamber for the last time at the end
of the 2012 legislative session;
Whereas, During his time in the House of Representatives,
Representative Dodge has served on the Environmental Affairs
Committee, the Natural Resources Committee, the Public
Health Committee, and the Veterans Affairs and Public Safety
Committee;
Whereas, Representative Dodge also served on the Lake
Management Work Group and Health Finance Commission
interim committees;
Whereas, Promoting the conservation of Indiana's natural
resources, developing solutions for problems affecting Indiana
lakes, addressing the issue of toxic growth of blue-green algae,
and prevention of phosphorus contamination in lakes and
reservoirs have been some of Representative Dodge's top
priorities during his tenure at the Statehouse;
Whereas, Representative Dodge was selected as Indiana
Wildlife Federation Legislative Conservationist of the Year in
2011;
Whereas, In addition to his interest in preserving and
protecting Indiana's natural resources, Representative Dodge
worked hard to strengthen Indiana's economy by bringing more
jobs and businesses to our state and his area;
Whereas, Representative Dodge served his country as a
member of the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954;
Whereas, Before being elected to the House of
Representatives, Representative Dodge served as a Steuben
County Commissioner, a Steuben Township trustee, a member
of the Steuben Township Advisory Board, and the Steuben
County Council;
Whereas, Active in his community, Representative Dodge
has been involved in numerous local government organizations,
and he is a former president of the Indiana Association of
County Councils, a former member of the Association of
Indiana Counties Northeast District, a former member of the
board of directors of the Association of Indiana Counties, and
the former Steuben County Republican Party county chairman,
serving from 1988 to 1992;
Whereas, Representative Dodge is a member of the Pleasant Lake Lions Club, American Legion Post #257, Angola Elks Lodge #2398, Fremont Moose Lodge #2387, National Rifle Association, Indiana Sheriffs' Association, Indiana Farm Bureau, and Hoosier War Birds, and has served as past
president and board member of the Steuben County Historical
Society;
Whereas, Representative Dodge graduated from Pleasant
Lake High School, attended Purdue University and Ferris State
College, and is a member of the Angola Christian Church;
Whereas, Representative Dodge currently performs
consulting work for heating and air conditioning companies
and previously owned and operated a heating and air
conditioning business for 36 years; and
Whereas, Representative Richard Dodge has served his
constituency loyally and faithfully since his election to the
Indiana General Assembly: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives bids a fond farewell to Representative Richard Dodge. The House of Representatives has seen only good things during his tenure. Legislators and staff alike will miss him greatly. His departure will leave a void that will never be truly filled.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Representative Richard Dodge and his family.
