A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing the Bluebeard
Restaurant.
Whereas, The James Beard Foundation Restaurant and
Chef Awards are considered the Oscars of the food world;
Whereas, The Bluebeard restaurant, opened in the summer
of 2012 at 653 Virginia Avenue in the historic Holy Rosary
neighborhood in Indianapolis, is a semifinalist in the
foundation's best new restaurant category;
Whereas, The Bluebeard was chosen as a semifinalist from
a list that includes new restaurants from across the country;
Whereas, Located in a renovated 1924 warehouse,
Bluebeard features a family dining room, a bar room, and a
courtyard with a menu showcasing contemporary
Italian-inspired cuisine that features the best local produce and
meat;
Whereas, The Bluebeard derived its name from a novel by
Indianapolis native Kurt Vonnegut and, in homage to the
writer, is decorated with antique typewriters, including one that
is reputed to be a replica of the machine Vonnegut used to write
his book;
Whereas, The person responsible for securing and
renovating the space for the Bluebeard restaurant is Tom
Battista;
Whereas, Tom Battista is a native Hoosier born and raised
in Indianapolis;
Whereas, Although he received an outstanding education
at Brebeuf High School and Indiana University, Tom learned
valuable lessons that would serve him well later in his career
while on the job with "an old concrete guy" named Finn
Thornton;
Whereas, He learned the value of how to set up a job, the
importance of being prepared, and the habit of thinking ahead
and anticipating the next steps;
Whereas, In addition to his involvement with the
Bluebeard, Tom Battista has played a huge part in the
renovation of Massachusetts Avenue; and
Whereas, Under the guidance of John and Abbi Adams and
Tom's son Ed, the Bluebeard restaurant has received the
recognition it truly deserves: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates the Bluebeard restaurant and owners John and Abbi Adams and Tom and Eddie Battista for selection as a semifinalist in the 2013 James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef Awards.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to John and Abbi Adams and Tom and Eddie Battista.
