A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Bill
Brown.
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., was born on July 2,
1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the oldest male child of William
Henry Brown Sr., and Bonnie Bradley Brown; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., accepted Christ and
was baptized at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church in 1985;
and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., married Ava Marie
(Cork) Brown on May 18, 1985 and from this union 3 children
were born; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., graduated from
Crispus Attucks High School in 1956; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., was the "sixth man"
on the 1955 and 1956 State Championship High School
Basketball at Crispus Attucks High School; and,
Whereas, The Crispus Attucks Tigers became the first
black team in the history of American sports to win two state
championships; and,
Whereas, the 1955 and 1956 Crispus Attucks Tigers were
inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005 and
2006; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., played college
basketball at Tennessee State University; and,
Whereas, the college basketball career of William Henry
Brown, Jr. was cut short by polio; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr. overcame polio and
was playing semi-professional basketball within two years of
his diagnosis; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., served on the
Indianapolis Fire Department for 17 Years; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., also worked for
Indianapolis Public Schools; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., was a peaceful man
and perfect gentleman who loved children and his family; and,
Whereas, William Henry Brown, Jr., departed this life on
April 16, 2011 at the age of 73: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives commemorates the long and rich life of William Henry Brown, Jr., and offers its deepest condolences on behalf of its members to those
bereaved by his passing,
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House transmit a copy
of this resolution to the family of William Henry Brown, Jr.
