A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor Representative John
Day on his retirement from the Indiana House of
Representatives.
Whereas, Representative John Day has represented his
constituents, the citizens of House District 100, for thirty-six
years, serving once from 1974 until 1994, and again from 1996
until this year;
Whereas, Representative Day is a life-long resident of
Indianapolis, having graduated from Cathedral High School and
Marian University before moving on to receive his Master of
Arts degree from Indiana University in Bloomington;
Whereas, Representative Day is widely known and recognized in Indianapolis and across the state as a powerful advocate for child health and nutrition, having been the driving force behind the creation of the Indiana School Breakfast Program, as a defender of the middle class as a strong supporter
of the state Earned Income Tax Credit, and as a passionate
defender of the health and prosperity of Indianapolis
neighborhoods, especially his own Near Eastside communities;
and,
Whereas, Outside the Statehouse, Representative Day is a
scholar of history and political science, lecturing at Marian
University for many years and an avid student of the history of
the Catholic Church in Indianapolis, and has dedicated himself
to his neighbors, parishioners and his community through his
active involvement with the Church, including many years as a
coach for Catholic Youth Organization basketball teams:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives thanks
Representative John Day for his dedicated and honorable service to his
constituency and to the state of Indiana, and wishes him happiness and
contentment in his retirement.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Representative
John Day and his family.
