        A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Gene Keady.
    

    Whereas, Former Purdue basketball head coach Gene Keady will be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame;

    Whereas, With 512 victories in 25 seasons, Gene Keady holds the record for the most wins in Purdue history;

    Whereas, Gene Keady led the Boilermakers to six Big Ten Conference championships (1984, 1987, 1988, 1994, 1995, and 1996), including three straight titles from 1994-1996, and advanced to postseason play 22 times in his 25 seasons at

Purdue;

    Whereas, Perhaps what is best remembered by citizens of Indiana is the rivalry that existed between Indiana University head coach Bob Knight and Gene Keady;

    Whereas, Gene Keady was a winner there also, defeating Knight and his Hoosiers 20 - 19 overall;

    Whereas, Interested in academics as well as athletics, Gene Keady graduated almost 90% of his players, 41 of whom were Academic All-Big Ten and seven were Academic All-Americans;

    Whereas, Gene Keady was named Big Ten Coach of the Year a league-record seven times and National Coach of the Year six times;

    Whereas, In honor of his many accomplishments, the Mackey Arena playing floor was renamed Keady Court on December 12, 1997;

    Whereas, Gene Keady retired as the Boilermakers' head coach after the 2004-2005 season; he currently lives in New York and is a special assistant at St. John's to former Purdue assistant coach Steve Lavin; and

    Whereas, Gene Keady is a Big Ten legend who deserves the honor of being inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates Gene Keady on his induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and thanks him for all the exciting times he gave us throughout the years.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Gene Keady.
