SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No. 12

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging INDOT to rename the Interstate 64 bridge over the Big Bayou River the Sergeant John E. Hatfull Memorial Bridge.
    
     Whereas, Sergeant John Edward Hatfull was born in London, England on March 17, 1942. He immigrated to Canada in 1959;

    Whereas, Sergeant Hatfull joined the United States Marine Corps in 1961 and served honorably for 4 years;

    Whereas, Sergeant Hatfull was accepted into the Indiana State Police Academy on the condition that he become a United States citizen. He excelled at the Academy and was honored with the Outstanding Cadet Award;

    Whereas, After the Academy, Sergeant Hatfull was assigned to the Evansville Post, where he served for 14 years;

    Whereas, On April 13, 1987, Sergeant Hatfull was killed in the line of duty while leading an Emergency Response Team;

    Whereas, At the time of his death, Sergeant Hatfull was survived by his wife, Micky; twelve-year-old son, Jay Edward; and eighteen-year-old daughter, Renee;

    Whereas, After his death, Sergeant Hatfull was posthumously promoted to the rank of lieutenant; and

    Whereas, In recognition of his ultimate sacrifice, the Indiana Department of Transportation is urged to rename the Interstate 64 bridge over the Big Bayou River, bridge number I64-2-05198, the Sergeant John E. Hatfull Memorial Bridge: Therefore,     

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly urges INDOT to rename the Interstate 64 bridge over the Big Bayou River the Sergeant John E. Hatfull Memorial Bridge.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
