    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Lafayette Central Catholic volleyball team on winning their first ever Class A state championship.

    Whereas, The Lafayette Central Catholic volleyball team won its first ever Class A state championship at Ball State's Worthen Arena, defeating Indianapolis Lutheran;

    Whereas, Lafayette Central Catholic dominated the first set, taking it 25-9. The momentum changed in the second set as Indianapolis Lutheran rallied to win 25-17, after enduring nine ties and four lead changes;

    Whereas, Indianapolis Lutheran continued their strong play into the third set, jumping out to an 11-6 lead, prompting Lafayette Central Catholic Head Coach Brad McCarter to call a crucial timeout. After the timeout, Lafayette Central Catholic scored eight straight points to regain control of the third set. Senior Olivia Walker finished the set with an ace, giving Lafayette Central Catholic the third set win 25-18;

    Whereas, Lafayette Central Catholic kept up the momentum in the fourth set, getting leads of 19-10 and 24- 14. Indianapolis Lutheran closed the gap to 24-18 before a kill by junior Margan Hainje sealed the state championship for Lafayette Central Catholic;


    Whereas, Leading the way for Lafayette Central Catholic were seniors Olivia Walker, Molly King, and Claire Riehle. Walker tallied a game high 14 kills, King chipped in 11 kills and 9 digs, and Riehle added 10 kills and 12 digs of her own;

    Whereas, Claire Riehle was named the 2010 Mental Attitude Award winner for Girls 1A Volleyball. The award is presented annually to a senior in each classification who demonstrates excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership, and athletic ability. Riehle is ranked sixth in her class and is the captain of the team; and

    Whereas, Winning their first ever Class A state championship is an incredible achievement by the Lafayette Central Catholic volleyball team, and this accomplishment is worthy of enormous praise: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


    SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly congratulates the Lafayette Central Catholic volleyball team on winning their first ever Class A state championship.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Lafayette Central Catholic volleyball team and Head Coach Brad McCarter.
