A SENATE RESOLUTION celebrating a mutually beneficial
and prosperous sister-state relationship between Indiana and the
Zhejiang Province and welcoming Madame Qiao Chuanxiu and
the delegation from China.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION celebrating a mutually
beneficial and prosperous sister-state relationship between
Indiana and the Zhejiang Province and welcoming Madame
Qiao Chuanxiu and the delegation from China.
Whereas, Indiana has continued a strong cultural and
economic relationship, which began in 1987, with the Zhejiang
Province in an effort for both governments to create the
conditions for job growth and bolster investment for their
constituency;
Whereas, As a result of the relationship, Indiana exports
to China have more than quadrupled since the beginning of the
century and China is one of the top three foreign purchasers of
Indiana's automobile parts;
Whereas, In addition to the numerous benefits for Indiana,
the Zhejiang Province has become one of the leading recipients
of U.S. investment in China where Zhejiang is now home to
4,700 U.S.-invested projects making the United States one of
the Province's top investors;
Whereas, Indiana considers China one of its largest Asian
trading partners. As a result, the Indiana Economic
Development Corporation opened an office in Zhejiang in an
effort to maintain this special trade relationship and convey the
benefits of the Hoosier State to Chinese companies;
Whereas, In addition to the sister-city pairings of
Indianapolis and Hangzhou, there exists an exciting
opportunity to develop additional sister-city relationships
between the cities in the Zhejiang Province and Hoosier cities
including Logansport and Haining thereby creating a growing
bond between Indiana and the Zhejiang Province;
Whereas, Madame Qiao Chuanxiu and the Chinese hosting
delegation were a superb and gracious host during Indiana's
trade mission which was led by Lieutenant Governor Becky
Skillman and included a delegation of State Officials and
Indiana business leaders;
Whereas, The relationship between Indiana and Zhejiang
remains strong and productive after 25 years, and Indiana joins
Zhejiang in celebrating the 25th anniversary of Indiana's sister-
state relationship with Zhejiang; and
Whereas, Together Indiana and Zhejiang have grown and
evolved to become integral participants in a globalized
economy: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate celebrates a mutually beneficial and prosperous sister-state relationship between Indiana and the Zhejiang Province and welcomes Madame Qiao Chuanxiu and the delegation from China.
SECTION 2. That 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of Indiana's sister-state relationship with the Zhejiang Province of China.
SECTION 3. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Madame Qiao Chuanxiu and one copy to
the Indiana Council on China at the Sagamore Institute.
