MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating the Yorktown
High School girls golf team on winning the 2012 State
Championship.
Whereas, This victory marks the first non-volleyball state
championship for a school in Delaware County in 10 years,
and the first state championship for girls golf for Yorktown
High School since 1976;
Whereas, It is no surprise that the Yorktown golf team won
the state championship. The team entered the season ranked
number one, won the Delaware County Championship, Hoosier
Heritage Conference Championship, IHSAA Sectional
Championship, IHSAA Regional Championship, and finished
the season with a perfect record of 20 wins and zero losses;
Whereas, The pressure of being top-ranked never distracted the team. After the opening round, the Tigers held a two-stroke lead over their closest competitor. They extended their lead
during the second day of play, ultimately capturing the
championship title with a 14 stroke lead;
Whereas, Based on her outstanding individual play,
Kennedy Windlan was recognized as a member of the Indiana
High School Golf Coaches Association 2012 girls golf all state
team;
Whereas, The team asserted their dominance this season by
clinching two other Championships as well - the Delaware
County Championship and the Hoosier Heritage Conference
Championship;
Whereas, The Delaware County Athletics Association is the
Delaware County league and consists of six schools in the
county. The Yorktown golf team defeated the tournament
competition, clinching their fourth straight Delaware County
Championship;
Whereas, The team also won the Hoosier Heritage
Conference Championship, defeating seven other teams for
their fourth straight Hoosier Heritage Conference title;
Whereas, The team is grateful for the support of their
school, friends, and family members, many of whom attended
the State Championship to cheer on the team as they played;
and
Whereas, The 2012 Championship team, comprised of
Seniors Amy Beckwith, Tara Clark, Ashley Sexton, and
Kennedy Windlan; and Sophomores Morgan Clark and Rachel
Johnson, had an outstanding season and we wish them
continued success in the future: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate congratulates the Yorktown High School girls golf team on their State Championship victory.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Athletic Director Dan Wolfert, Head Coach Brian Hill. Assistant coach Terry Boehm, and Manager Palmer Hill.
