SENATE RESOLUTION

MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the legislative council to establish an interim study committee to study the issue of uninsured drivers.

    Whereas, Recent statistics indicate that about 1 in 7 at-fault drivers are uninsured even though it is illegal to drive without insurance;

    Whereas, When the at-fault driver is uninsured, the costs for medical expenses, vehicle repairs, and a replacement rental car end up being the victim's responsibility; and

    Whereas, In order to improve the uninsured driver situation, it behooves the state to study the cause and effect of uninsured drivers and how to keep uninsured drivers off the road: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to establish an interim study committee to study uninsured drivers.
    SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the legislative council, and that the committee shall issue a final report when directed to do so by the council.
